Baku/21.11.20/Turan: On November 18, the French Senate made a decision to put to a vote on November 25 a draft resolution "On the need to recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. On the same day, the Paris City Council called for the recognition of Karabakh.
For many years, France did not cope with the duty of the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, which mediated in the Karabakh settlement, and now with this decision wants to reignite the war in Karabakh. Even if these documents are adopted in France, they will not be legally binding. Nevertheless, all political and diplomatic capabilities of Azerbaijan must be mobilized. The Musavat party attracts its opportunities abroad to thwart the intentions of the French, Arif Hajili, chairman of the opposition Azerbaijani party, said on a social network.
The reader of the “Caucasian Knot” left his opinion: “The main thing is the recognition of Karabakh by Armenia itself, and not by France. Until Armenia creates a precedent, no country will be more pro-Karabakh-Armenian than Armenia itself. But after the November defeat, Armenia does not have the slightest chance to recognize the Karabakh Armenians and Pashinyan does not make any provocative statements in this regard. "
Turan interviewed Azerbaijani politicians and political scientists. Zaur Mammadov, a lecturer at the Institute of Political Management under the President of Azerbaijan, said, “If the French make such a decision, it could become a precedent for other countries. In response, Azerbaijanis can boycott French goods, remove the French company Total from Azerbaijan, recall our ambassador from Paris." The expert added that the decisions of the French Senate are not binding on the government of this country.
Rovshan Ibrahimov, a professor at the Hankuk University of South Korea for Foreign Studies, answered Turan's question, writing in the message: “France, as the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair, has the duty to be neutral. If they recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as a state, it will be a paradox; the actions of Paris will be incomprehensible not only to Azerbaijan, but also to the entire European community, since France represents all of Europe in the OSCE Minsk Group.”
“France has economic interests in Azerbaijan in various fields. “Total” is involved in energy work. France is present in the Azerbaijani aerospace, transport, hotel business, and a joint Azerbaijani-French university operates. All this could collapse. France's political relations with Russia, Azerbaijan and Turkey will suffer. Baku can respond by recognizing independence from France for Corsica, Bretonne and South Carolina,” Ibrahimov said.
In an interview with Turan, the Milli Mejlis deputy Asim Mollazade said that the role of France in the Karabakh processes came to naught, since the Azerbaijani army itself complied with four UN Security Council resolutions and the Madrid Principles. Moreover, the decisions planned there have no legal force, and the political significance of the expected documents is minimal. “The actions of the French leaders harm this country, dishonor France and the whole of Europe, in which this country plays a significant role,” said the MP. A. Mollazade accused President Macron and his team of inciting Islamophobia, racism, anti-Semism, as a result of which 60 thousand Jews left France.
He spoke about the corruption dependence of the French leadership on the Armenian rich in this country. “Macron’s actions cast doubt on democratic values in his country and Europe, they cannot prevent Azerbaijan from solving our national tasks,” Mollazade said.
On Friday afternoon, a protest action with the participation of a number of public organizations of the country was held in front of the French Embassy in Baku. The participants protested against the proposal on the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh discussed in the French Senate. The action took place without incident and the police did not intervene.
In Azerbaijan, there are more and more calls to reduce or completely cut off all economic and political ties with France because of Paris' open support for Armenian separatists. Earlier, President Aliyev warned that Azerbaijan would sever diplomatic relations with the country that recognizes the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. — 0—
