Russia and Armenia signed documents regulating the work of peacekeepers
Baku/21.11.20/Turan: defense Ministers of Armenia and Russia Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Sergey Shoigu signed a package of documents regulating the activities of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh in Yerevan. This was reported on the website of the Armenian defense Ministry on Saturday, November 21.
The head of the Russian Ministry congratulated Harutyunyan on assuming the post of Minister of defense of Armenia, to which he was appointed on November 20, reports iz.ru.
"At the end of the meeting, Armenian defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Russian defense Minister Sergei Shoigu signed a package of documents regulating the activities of the peacekeeping contingent in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone," the Ministry said.
During the meeting, the interlocutors highly appreciated the role and efforts of Russia in stabilizing the military-political situation in the region, as well as the effectiveness of the Russian peacekeeping mission in Karabakh. Shoigu spoke about the work already done and upcoming programs.
The defense Ministers stressed the importance of finding and exchanging the bodies of dead soldiers, prisoners of war, hostages, and missing persons.
They also pointed to the importance of the Russian interagency humanitarian response center established in Karabakh, which deals with the return of refugees and the restoration of civilian infrastructure.
Russian departmental delegation consisting of Shoigu, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, health Minister Mikhail Murashko and head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova arrived in Yerevan on Saturday morning. She will also visit Baku.
At a meeting with Pashinyan, Shoigu said that Russia is going to prevent further bloodshed in the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR). He also noted that Russian peacekeepers control the road to Stepanakert and that peaceful life in the region is established.
In turn, Lavrov said that at the talks in the capital of Armenia, all sides recognized that there is no alternative to the statement on Karabakh and that attempts to question the statement of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan are unacceptable.--0--
