Shoigu discussed with Aliyev the situation in Karabakh
Baku/21.11.20/Turan: On Saturday, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received at his residence the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu, who arrived from Yerevan, where he signed a number of documents concerning the Russian peacekeeping mission in Karabakh. The meeting was attended by Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov and other officials. “Today we will discuss issues related to the implementation of the trilateral statement signed by the Presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia. In our opinion, the provisions of the statement are being successfully implemented and this once again demonstrates the readiness of both the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides to put an end to the long-term conflict and come to a political settlement,” Aliyev said, welcoming Shoigu.
According to Aliyev, "after 44 days of armed struggle, hostilities, a very important political document was signed, and which essentially puts an end to the long-term confrontation." Aliyev expressed gratitude to Shoigu, the leadership of Russia, and President Putin for active personal participation in the preparation and adoption of this important political document.
The Azerbaijani army achieved a brilliant military victory and thus we moved to the political settlement, Aliyev said, noting that the Azerbaijani army entered the city of Aghdam, the rest of the occupied Aghdam region. The points of the statement are being fulfilled. The President welcomed the deployment of the peacekeeping mission of the Russian Federation, which works in working contact with the Azerbaijani structures and with the Armenian side. “I believe that this is an important factor in stabilizing the situation and since the signing of the statement, there have been no serious violations of the ceasefire. And I am sure that it will not,” Aliyev said.
He welcomed the active course of negotiations between the Russian Federation and Turkey on the establishment of a ceasefire-monitoring center on the territory of Azerbaijan. "We consider this a very important element of strengthening stability and security in this region," Aliyev said.
President Aliyev expressed hope that “today's ceasefire and our further plans to normalize relations with Armenia, if perceived positively by the Armenian side, can create a new situation in the region, a situation of cooperation, a situation of strengthening stability and security. Everyone will benefit from this. The peoples inhabiting our region, and our neighbors, and the whole world will be safer. "
The Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation said that not much time has passed after the adoption of the plan by the heads of state of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the peacekeeping forces took the positions that had been determined. That is, 23 posts will take under control in the direction of the highway to ensure safety on the line of contact. The return of refugees began. All the work that has been established today naturally yields results.
“As you noted, during this time, perhaps with the exception of the rare, which we consider, insignificant firefights, the ceasefire has been observed, and I am sure that this will continue to be so,” Sergei Shoigu said.
