Gakh Region Preparing for Presidents Arrival
Baku / 07/31/17 / Turan: President Aliyev will arrive in the Gakh region of Azerbaijan in early August. Preparing for the arrival of the President, employees of budgetary organizations in the town of Gakh mow grass and cut bushes along the roads. It is expected that the President will solemnly open new roads, two kindergartens, the local Flag Square and the Gakh Department of the State Agricultural Organization.
The main thing about what the local residents would ask the President is to open many jobs, since in the town of Gakh there is total unemployment. The residents cannot engage in agriculture (farming and animal husbandry), as they did not receive land as property, because they live in a town. There are jobs in a few state organizations, schools, kindergartens, a technical lyceum, branches of three banks, procurement points for collection of nuts, a small tobacco factory, a factory for bottling table water, car repair shops, households and trade. In recent years, due to the influx of tourists in the villages of Ilisu and Agchay many restaurants and hotels have been built, and villagers rent houses and rooms to tourists.
Those who do not find jobs in Gakh try to find them in Zagatala, Sheki, Baku, Russia and Turkey.
Only employees of state institutions are provided with stable employment, but they receive a tiny salary, some of which is sometimes deducted for incomprehensible state purposes, a school teacher, who refused to name himself, explained to Turan by phone.
Last time, when President I.Aliyev came to Gakh, the townspeople were not allowed to approach him, they were driven out of the streets and demanded that they go into their yards and not come out.
The Gakh region is part of the Sheki-Zagatala economic region of Azerbaijan. About 60,000 people live in the region, of whom the Inghiloi Georgians are second in number after the Azerbaijanis. -0-

Amid the bustling scenes of this year’s COP29 climate conference, a protest against whaling and deep-sea mining, organized by a group calling itself the FINS Initiative, drew significant attention from delegates and observers. However, questions have arisen about the legitimacy of the group, as an internet search yields little evidence of its existence beyond scattered mentions.
