Ganja People Protest in Front of Presidential Administration
Baku / 07.05.19 / Turan: Family members of those arrested in connection with the Ganja events held on May 7 an attempt to hold a protest action in front of the administration of the country's President. They were holding in their hands a photo of the head of the investigative group on the "Ganja case" and other security officials, demanding to punish them for torture of those arrested.
Human rights activist Ogtay Gyulaliyev told Turan that the rally was dispersed, and several of its participants and journalists were detained. In particular, the police detained journalists Arzu Abdullah, Sevinj Sadigova, Teymur Karimov and Gulnaz Gambarova.
Two hours later, three journalists were released from the 9th police station of the Sabail District Police Department. Teymur Karimov is still in the office, said Abdullah.
* On July 3, 2018, in Ganja, an attempt was made on the then head of the city, Elmar Veliyev. A native of Ganja, Yunis Safarov wounded him and his bodyguard. After that, on social networks, a protest rally was scheduled for July 10 in front of the Ganja administration against Veliyev.
On July 10, the MIA reported on the unrest in Ganja, during which two police officers were killed. Following this, mass arrests among believers began. In total, more than 70 people were brought to criminal responsibility. Another 6 people were killed while providing armed resistance.
Sentences have already been issued to three groups of the accused, totaling 25 people, who have been sentenced to terms ranging from 5 to 8 years in prison for participating in riots and violence against police officers. -03B06-

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."

On Tuesday, the General Prosecutor's Office announced the initiation of new criminal cases against agricultural product exporters who allegedly concealed their earnings abroad. Specifically, the Sumgayit City Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case under Articles 208.2.1 and 208.2.2 (failure to return foreign currency to the country in large amounts by prior agreement of a group of individuals) and Article 308.2 (abuse of office causing serious consequences) against officials of the company "SOİL BOONS" LLC – Jahangir Aliyev, Elyar Gadzhiev, Mehman Mirzamedev, Saleh Gabilov, and Aly Aliyev.
