Georgian Prosecutor's Office wants to arrest another doctor from Azerbaijan
Baku / 27.01.18 / Turan: The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia started criminal prosecution against the surgeon-transplant surgeon, invited by the Lancet clinic from Azerbaijan. The statement of the ministry reads that the prosecutor's office accuses the transplant surgeon M.K. in the case of "attempts and misappropriation of a large number of money by patient."
According to the materials of the criminal case, liver transplant surgery was performed at the Lancet clinic, which led to the death of two patients in March 2016. As a result of an examination, it turned out that none of the deceased patients needed urgent surgery, but the transplant surgeon and the director of the clinic convinced them of the need urgent liver transplantation, which costs 40 thousand dollars. Both patients took a loan. They were operated on March 3rd and 8th, 2016. Both died within a week after the operation.
"Since the surgeon M.K. refuses to appear in the investigative bodies, the prosecutor's office applies to the court with request to arrest him, and after getting the permission M.K. will be put on the wanted list," reads the statement of Georgia"s prosecutor's office. The full name of this doctor is not noted in the message.
Trial in the case of the director of the Lancet clinic, Farman Jeyranov, who was arrested earlier, is ongoing in the Tbilisi City Court. He is accused of "large-scale fraud" and "concealment or falsification of information on circumstances that endanger life or health of people", which is punishable by imprisonment for a period from six to nine years.
Famous Azerbaijani surgeon Farman Jeyranly created one of the best private clinics in Tbilisi several years ago - "Lancet". Some time ago, he decided to sell the clinic, but Georgian buyers offered him only half of the real cost. After refusing to sell the clinic at a bargain price, Jeyranli was arrested on a far-fetched charge. His family is convinced that the case will be closed, as soon as Jeyranli agrees to sell the clinic at the suggested price.
Another reason for the arrest of a well-known doctor may be the order from Baku, who suspects Jeyranli of financing political opposition of Azerbaijan and political emigrants in Georgia.
Jeyranly, who was arrested on May 22, 2017, said that the charges brought against him were contrived and had nothing to do with him. He does not bear any legal responsibility for the actions indicated in the official charge, because he was only the owner of the clinic and all decisions about the operation were taken by the treating doctors. The defense also called groundless the charge of fraud, put forward against his client. -02D-
