Human rights activist Ogtay Gyulalyev summoned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Baku / 05.02.19 / Turan: Today at 5:00, the Coordinator of the Center for the Protection of Political Prisoners (CPPP) Ogtay Gulaliyev was summoned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. His colleagues believe that the reason could be the recent publication of the CPPP report on torture, the publication of Gyulalyev on the pressure on political prisoners.
The day before he published a post about a meeting of human rights defenders with the wife of Aga Sarkhani, who was killed during a special operation by security officials in connection with the Ganja events on July 25, 2018 The body of Sarkhani has not been given to the family for seven months now.
Gulaliyev noted that during the assassination attempt on the head of Ganja Elmar Veliyev on July 3, Sarkhani was not in Azerbaijan at all, although law enforcement agencies suspected him of organizing and being involved in the attempt.
Gulaliyev, referring to the victim's spouse, notes that Sarkhani was never in Syria, as stated in the message of the State Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to the human rights activist, the wife of Sarkhani, who was seeking the release of her husband's body, was pressured to refuse him. She did not do it, but she also demanded an investigation into the circumstances of her husband"s murder.
Gulaliyev noted that Sarkhani was killed without a court decision. The society should not be indifferent to this. He demanded to give the body of Sarkhani to the family, and punish those responsible for his death.
Gulaliyev himself, due to being in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was unavailable for comment.
The attempts to get comments in the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were futile. -06D-
