Human rights activists demand justice for Polad Aslanov and Afgan Sadigov
Baku/03.03.21/Turan: The Committee against Repression and Torture issued a statement in support of the arrested founders of the websites Azel TV and Xeberman. com - Afgan Sadigov and Polad Aslanov.
The committee pointed out that Afgan Sadigov had been arrested earlier for exposing the arbitrariness and illegal acts of officials. His new arrest followed after critical publications addressed to the head of the Sumgayit Executive Power Zakir Faradjev.
Sadigov himself said that he did not commit a criminal act, he was offered money, but did not take it and was arrested by order. He has been on a hunger strike for the fourth month against an illegal 6-year sentence.
On the 80th day of the hunger strike, he fell into a coma and now his life is supported by forced feeding, nevertheless his life is in danger.
Human rights activists point out that another person involved in the case, Sakit Muradov, who initiated the bribe taking, received only three years of probation. Against this background, the conviction of Sadigov to 6 years in prison testifies to the bias of the investigation.
As for the case of Polad Aslanov, human rights activists are convinced that the accusation of espionage has not been proven, and the reason for the arrest is publications about extortion of law enforcement agencies from travel agencies organizing pilgrimages to Iran and Iraq. According to the investigation, Aslanov wrote these publications on the instructions of the Iranian special services.
Contrary to the official announcement about the presence of written documents on the receipt of a monetary reward from the Iranians, it turned out in court that there were no such facts,” the statement said.
Because of a month's hunger strike, Polad Aslanov, who weighed 44 kg, lost even more weight, his cardiovascular, hypertensive, kidney and stomach diseases worsened. The Committee against Repression and Torture, based on the above facts, considers the arrests
Sadigov and Aslanov illegal and politically motivated. There was no fair investigation during the preliminary investigation and trials. The committee demanded, taking into account the threat to the lives of both, to review their cases, to ensure an objective investigation and to release them from custody. — 06D-

By that night, however, the mysterious visitor had departed, loaded onto a cargo platform and whisked away to the airport.
