Husband and son of Matanat Azizova detained at the border
May 22 at the Azerbaijani- Georgian border when leaving Georgia were detained the son ( Jamal ) and the husband ( Eldar ) of Matanat Azizova. Turan was told by Leyla Yunus. According to her, the guards explained this with indication from the prosecution.
The prosecutor’s ban is illegal and it is not included in the power of the prosecutor. Such a ban is the prerogative of the court, said Yunus. "April 28 at the Baku airport me and my husband also without a court order were not allowed to leave the country. This was done at the direction of the investigator Ibrahim Lemberansky," she said.
The son and the husband of Matanat Azizova were not tested in the case of Rauf Mirkadirov even as witnesses. "It is obvious that flouting the law, the prosecutors are putting pressure on human rights defenders. In my human rights practice, I was witness to how prosecutors use children and family members for hard pressure and blackmail.
It is noteworthy that a similar outrage against Azizova occurs at the moment of the visit to Baku of the CoE Secretary General Jagland and PACE President Ann Basser, and during the signing of the Action Plan on cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe.
We are kept as hostages and are not let to leave the country in contradiction to Azerbaijani law and international law. Completely depreciated is the value of Azerbaijan's participation in such a structure as the Council of Europe and the fundamental principles of the CE are nullified," said Yunus.
The lawyer Fuad Agayev, commenting on the refusal to let the son and the husband of Matanat Azizova from the country stated that this restriction of movement can only be taken by the appropriate authority. Without such a legally valid decision, the travel ban is illegal.
On May 23 at 12.00 in the Media Center IRFS, a press conference will be held by the mother of Matanat Azizova, Mirvari Gahramanli and Leyla Yunus. - 04B -
