Ilgar Mamedov Prematurely Released from Punishment Cell
The prisoner in solitary confinement since May 14, leader of REAL Ilgar Mamedov today was prematurely released from the punishment cell. The lawyer Fuad Agayev wrote on this on his Facebook page.
According to him, today he spoke with Mamedov on the phone.
On May 14 before the roll call at 16:30, five members of the jail came to Mamedov’s cell to search. As a result, no legally prohibited items were found.
After that Mamedov was summoned to the deputy chief of the jail Emil Hasanov, who said that he prevented the search and sentenced him to 7 days in a punishment cell.
Mamedov called it a lie and wrote a written protest.
On May 15 Agayev the lawyer was not allowed to Mamedov that was rude violation of his right to defense.
On the same day, Mamedov met with an officer of the Ombudsman, who was informed in detail about the incident.
This morning, from the punishment cell Mamedov was led to the head of the jail, and then conducted a medical examination. Then Mamedov returned to a common cell in Prison No 2, the lawyer concluded.
* March 17, 2014, Ilgar Mamedov was sentenced to 7 years in prison for organizing riots in Ismayilli on 23-24 January 2013.
On May 22, 2014 the European Court of Human Rights declared the detention of Ilgar Mamedov illegal. By the decision of the European Court, the government of Azerbaijan has to pay compensation to Mamedov, amounting to 22,000 Euros.
In June 2014 the Sheki Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the Sheki Court of Grave Crimes.
Amnesty International recognized Mamedov prisoner of conscience. -06B-
