Ilgar Mammadov’s Lawyers Preparing New Appeal to European Court
Lawyers visiting the leader of the movement REAL Ilgar Mammadov in Prison No2 are exposed to illegal testing and inspection of their personal belongings.
“These unjustified inspections are carried out each time. But on November 18, the day of the judgment of the Supreme Court in the case of Ilgar Mamedov, there was an especially thorough check,” the lawyer Shahla Humbatova told Turan.
According to her, the lawyers have to go through a scanner. “However, on November 18 they examined not only the bag with the documents relating to the defense, but also personal belongings, including purses. Moreover, prison officials considered how much money we had,” said the lawyer.
Humbatova wrote about this violation to the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, as the non-execution of the European Court judgment in the case of Ilgar Mammadov is under the control of the Committee.
In addition, Mammadov’s lawyers will prepare a joint appeal to the leadership of the Penitentiary Service.
In connection with the refusal of the Supreme Court, the defense will send ECHR a supplement to the second complaint by Mammadov about the violation of his rights under article 6 (fair trial) of the European Convention, according to which communication has already begun.
* Mammadov was arrested in connection with the unrest in the town of Ismayilli in January 2013.
He was sentenced to 7 years in prison. ECHR acknowledged his arrest as illegal and called for the release of this opposition leader in 2014. -06D--

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
