In Derbent, eliminated the damage on the sculpture by Nizami
Baku/10.04.19/Turan: On April 9, with the assistance of specialists from the Advertising and Trade Department of the Dagestan Republic of the Russian Federation, a monument to the Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi, damaged by unidentified persons, was reinstated in Derbent. "We appeal to the vandals: such acts are criminally punishable by the law of the Russian Federation and, of course, spoil the look of our ancient city!" the Derbent journalist Telman Tairli said on a social network.
Earlier, he reported that despite the dissatisfaction and complaints of the Azerbaijani population of Derbent, no work is being done to eliminate the act of vandalism regarding the monument to the great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi and to improve the square of the same name in Derbent.
The attackers broke the four fingers of the right hand sculpture. Last year, the Head of Dagestan, Vladimir Basiliev, spoke on this issue, who took part in the economic forum in Baku last year. In the comments to the information-analytical portal of the Public Association "For Human Rights" of the Azerbaijan Republic, the head of Dagestan said, "Those who are involved in vandalism regarding the monument to Nizami will be punished in accordance with the law. Vandalism against any historical monument should be punished. Law enforcement agencies of the republic are working in this direction."
In October 2018, on the instructions of the head of Derbent Enrik Muslimov, the sculpture was restored. However, a month later, his fingers broke again. Until yesterday, there was no government reaction in Dagestan.
"Guests come and take pictures at the monument with broken fingers. How are we going to develop tourism in Derbent if we do not respect our culture? We hope that the administration of Derbent will connect video surveillance, fix the night lighting and protect the monument," Telman Tairly wrote.
About the indifference of the local authorities and the damaged monument, Nizami told Turan in the article "Why do the Derbents ask I.Aliyev and not B.Putin?"
