In the first half of 2023, over 4.5 thousand drugs were seized from illicit trafficking in Azerbaijan
Baku/27.07.23/Turan: In the first half of 2023, law enforcement agencies identified 5881 facts related to crimes in the field of drug trafficking. Of these, 2,048 crimes related to the sale of drugs, 3,638 – illegal acquisition and possession of drugs, the report of the working group of the State Commission of Azerbaijan on combating drug addiction and illicit drug trafficking.
According to the revealed facts, 4 tons of 623 kg of drugs were seized from illegal trafficking, including 1 ton of 517 kg of heroin, 2 tons of 510 kg of marijuana, 193 kg of opium and other narcotic drugs. 147 tons of 147 kg of narcotic plants were destroyed.
4277 people were brought to criminal responsibility in connection with drug trafficking, including 4179 men, 98 women. There are 49 foreign citizens among those brought to justice.
142 facts of drug smuggling into Azerbaijan were also revealed. According to these facts, 1 ton 959 kg of drugs were seized from illegal trafficking.
The total market value of drugs seized from illicit trafficking is estimated at 219 million 430 thousand manat. ---06B---
