In the first half of the year the volume of illegal drug trafficking in Azerbaijan increased by more than 30%
Baku/07.08.23/Turan: Out of 19533 registered crimes in Azerbaijan in the first half of the year, 5884 or 30.1% are related to illicit trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances. Compared to the same period last year, this is by 2% more; 61.6% of crimes were committed for personal use, and 34.7% – for sale, another 2.8% – it was the cultivation of narcotic plants, the message of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan.
4225 persons have been identified in connection with drug trafficking. Of these, 35.7% were previously convicted, which is 13% more than last year. 99.3% of the suspects were brought to criminal responsibility. 71.3% of those who committed crimes are unemployed, 2.5% are women. 0.2% were aged 14-17 years, 5.9% - 18-24 years, 16.5% - 25-29 years, 77.4% – over 30 years.
During the review period, another 754 people were brought to administrative responsibility in connection with drug trafficking, by 17.6% less than last year.
In the first half of the year, 3,537.3 kg of drugs were seized from illicit trafficking, which is 39.2% more than last year. In particular, 2133.9 kg of marijuana, 1005.4 kg of heroin, 171.7 kg of opium, 49.8 kg of hashish, 0.5 kg of cocaine, 176.0 kg of other drugs or potent drugs were seized. ---05B---
