In the past year, 6 people died in a mine explosion in Azerbaijan
Baku / 02.01.21 / Turan: In 2020, 7 incidents with mines were registered in Azerbaijan, as a result of which 8 people were injured and 6 died. This is stated in the annual report of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).
ANAMA reports that 7,622,217 m3 (762 ha) of land were inspected in 2020, with 5,669 unexploded ordnance, 4,563 antipersonnel mines, 3,281 anti-tank mines (13,513 total) and 39,789 rounds of ammunition found.
During 2020, 1,607,720 m² (161 ha) of land, 3,613 unexploded ordnance, 4,559 anti-personnel mines, 3,278 anti-tank mines (11,450 total) were cleared, and 39,789 rounds of various calibers were found and neutralized.
For more than 21 years of the Agency's activity, 548,851,305 m3 (54,885 ha) of land have been cleared, 819,369 mines and unexploded ordnance have been discovered and neutralized.
Sappers of the Russian Ministry of Defense, ANAMA, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan and Turkey are working in areas where hostilities took place.
According to experts, there are about 100,000 mines in the conflict zone. In recent days, several civilians and servicemen, including a Russian serviceman, have been killed in a mine explosion. -03-
