Islamic party against the New Year celebrations
The Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA ) called the head of the Caucasus Muslims, Sheikh Allahshukur Pashazade to take measures to prevent the celebrations on the occasion of the New Year on December 31.
The Islamists motivate their appeal that this year December 31 will be the day of death of the Prophet Muhammad and Imam Hasan.
"We believe that the day of the Prophet's death should be celebrated as a national day of remembrance. On this day holiday shows on TV should be limited and a wide berth should be given to sermons and conversations of theologians," the statement says.
The Administration of Muslims has not commented on the appeal. -16/D06-
