Jamil Guliyev reelected General Director of the ITV
Baku / 25.04.17 / Turan: The Broadcasting Council elected as the General Director of the Public Television (ITV) on Tuesday. Among the five candidates, the current general director, Jamil Guliyev, won the most votes. Other candidates were Tair Pashazade, Iltifat Soltanov, Tair Mammadov and Afag Agayev. Guliyev for the first time was elected CEO of ITV in April 2013. Then his rival, the head of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety, Emin Huseynov, challenged the results of the elections in court. His complaint was not granted. Disagreeing with this decision, Huseynov appealed to the European Court of Human Rights. The case is in the proceedings of the Strasbourg Court.
Guliyev was born in Baku in 1963. He graduated from VGIK, specialty film director. He headed the State Film Fund, and then the TV channel "Culture".
* The ITV was established in 2005 as part of Azerbaijan's commitments to the Council of Europe. The opposition believes that the ITV does not fulfill its functions and does not provide political pluralism and debate on issues of concern to the public, including the allocation of state budget resources.-05D06--
