PFPA member Jeyhun Rzayev detained in Mingachevir
Baku / 17.05.22 / Turan: A local activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Jeyhun Rzayev was detained in the city of Mingachevir.
As Turan was told in the party, Rzayev was detained on May 17 at about five o'clock in the evening by three people in civilian clothes when he was picking up his schoolgirl daughter from a tutor.
The child was told to go home by herself, saying that "the father will not return soon."
The party believes that Rzayev is being persecuted because he held a solo action in Mingachevir on May 14 in solidarity with the demonstration in Baku under the slogan "We do not want a criminal state."
On May 14, Rzayev was already invited to the police station, but was released, having been warned that "they would call again."
In turn, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Elshad Hajiyev, told Turan that “representing himself as a member of the PFPA, previously convicted under Criminal Code, Jeyhun Rzayev was detained as a suspect in drug trafficking.”
“Currently, an appropriate investigation is underway against him. Depending on the results of the investigation, his act will be appropriately qualified,” Hajiyev said.
There are "no political motives" in Rzayev's detention, he added.
Rzayev has previously been detained and arrested after holding protests in Mingachevir, an industrial center located 320 km away. west of Baku.
So, in May 2020, he received 10 days of arrest, and in October 2021 - 15 days.—21B06-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
