Khadija Ismailova Awarded Another Prize
The journalist Khadija Ismayilova convicted in Azerbaijan has been awarded the Holme Hero, awarded by the Swedish newspaper Handels-och-Sjofarstidning.
The name of the award comes from the trilogy by the Swedish writer Jan Fridegerad. The award is presented annually to human rights defenders who have sacrificed their freedom and sometimes their lives for the sake of the rights and freedoms of others.
In particular, Ismayilova was awarded the prize in view of the fact that she placed her professional duty above the threat to her freedom.
Previously the prize was awarded to the former US National Security Agency employee Edward Snowden, the founder of the website Wikileaks Julian Assange, and the investigative journalist Lydia Cacho from Mexico.
Recall that Khadija Ismailova was sentenced to 7.5 years on trumped-up charges of tax evasion and fraud. The real reason for her arrest was her exposing corruption in the highest echelons of power in Azerbaijan. -03D-
