Khadija Ismail's suspended sentence completed
Baku/05.25.21/Turan: On May 25, the suspended sentence of investigative journalist Khadija Ismayil expired, the journalist herself told Turan. "Today the probationary period has expired. I signed up for the last time. They will edit the documents. They said that tomorrow or the day after tomorrow they will close the folder. They will provide me with a document. This is the day of exemption from monthly preventive conversations and a travel ban for five years," she said.
Arrested on December 5, 2014, Khadija Ismail was sentenced to 7, 5 years in prison on charges such as tax evasion and illegal business. By the decision of the Supreme Court of May 25, 2016, the imprisonment of the journalist was changed to three and a half years on probation. Subsequently, this period was reduced to 2 years 3 months.
The journalist had previously applied to the court because of the cancellation of the probationary period and suspended sentence. The first instance court and the appellate instance did not satisfy her appeal.
Khadija Ismail denies all charges, claiming that she was punished for investigating the business of the president and his family. -16d-
