The literary critic from Azerbaijan Khalida Khalid and her driver Shamhal Huseynov were released on May 19 from an Iranian prison, local media reported. According to the same sources, in the next few days, they will return home.
Based on the fact that those arrested have been released, unreported in Iranian sources, it can only be assumed that this was the result of the meeting of Azerbaijan's spiritual leader Sheikh Allahshukur Pashazade with the president and spiritual leader of Iran - Ahmadinejad and Ali Khamenei.
Khalida Khalid and her driver were arrested on April 30 in Tabriz, Iran's security forces - Ettelaat.
Later, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that the citizens of Azerbaijan tried to "establish illegal contacts," but the specific facts have not been released.
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has submitted two demands, requesting the release of their citizens.
After that, a number of Iranian media reported that Khalid was engaged in espionage.
These media have written that 130 Iranian nationals are "illegally" being held in Azerbaijan. -16D-
