Lawyer urged Ministry of Justice to provide Eldar Hasanov with qualified medical assistance
Baku/15.07.22/Turan: Javad Javadov, lawyer of Ex-Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan and former Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Serbia Eldar Hasanov, reported on deterioration of his client's health condition in custody.
According to the lawyer, Hasanov is not provided with adequate medical care.
The lawyer sent an open letter to Justice Minister Fikret Mamedov, urging him to ensure the effective treatment of Hasanov, as set forth by the European Court of Human Rights.
"I was forced to appeal to the Minister with an open letter, because all our official appeals to the main medical department of the Ministry of Justice remain unanswered," Javadov wrote in his facebook account.
According to the lawyer, the health condition of prisoner Eldar Hasanov, held in colony number 9, has been steadily deteriorating since April 26. Over the past 20 days he had been suffering from loss of consciousness and falling.
Despite the critical deterioration of his condition, no ambulance has so far been called.
The lawyer notes that over the two months the family had been appealing to the main Medical Directorate of the Ministry of Justice to invite doctors from private clinics but was ignored.
On November 19, 2021 the European Court of Human Rights adopted a third decision on interim compulsory measures due to Hasanov's condition. According to the decision, the government must provide qualified outpatient or inpatient treatment to Hasanov and adequate treatment in case of need at the place of detention.
The lawyer also called on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to give instructions to resolve the issue in accordance with the law.
*Eldar Hasanov was detained on 13 August 2020 by officers of the State Security Service. He was charged under five Articles: 179.3.2 (embezzlement), 193-1.3.2 (legalization of illegally obtained funds), 308.2 (abuse of office), 308-1.1 (misuse of budgetary funds) and 313 (forgery in office) of the Criminal Code.
Hasanov was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, found guilty of embezzlement and misappropriation while serving as Ambassador to Romania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro from 2010 to 2020. -06B-
