"Line of Defense" on the Situation of Human Rights in Azerbaijan
Baku/30.04.21/Turan: In Azerbaijan, the number of violations of the rights of citizens and the secrets of family and private life has increased in recent months. All this is done with the aim of blackmailing the critics of the authorities in order to silence them, stated at a briefing on April 30 Rufat Safarov, executive director of the NGO "Line of Defense".
Presenting the report on the monitoring results for April, he also pointed to the continued violations of the right to a fair trial, and the existence of torture of prisoners.
Safarov also stated the facts of violation of property rights.
The rights to confidential communication with a lawyer and access to quality medical care are also violated.
Thus, in April, on trumped-up charges, the following were arrested: PFPA supporter Lachin Veliyev, Musavat activist Nizamali Suleymanov and his nephew. The real prison term was received by the activist of the PFPA party Sayeed Bakuvi, who during the investigation was under a signature not to leave.
The organization also condemned the dispersal of those gathered for the funeral of the martyr in the village of Nardaran and the violation of the rights of the defendants in the "Ganja", "Terter" and "Tovuz" cases.
The "Line of Defense" called on the authorities to comply with the terms of international treaties in the field of human rights, to ensure the rule of law when considering cases, based on the precedents of the European Court of Justice, the elector a preventive measure arrest if necessary.
