Media Review March 4, 2020

The situation with corona virus in the country, the possible impact of the economic situation on the manat, a decrease in GDP, and the fight against cybercrime are the topics of today's media.

The newspaper Azerbaijan writes that the fight against corona virus is intensifying in the country, a headquarters has been set up in Azerbaijan, disinfection is underway, and an institution for laboratory diagnosis of corona virus has been created.

People arriving in the country pass a three-level check.

The condition of three patients with corona virus in Azerbaijan is stable.

The website Yeni Sabah.az discusses the manat rate with expert Natig Jafarli. The latter believes that from November 2019 to February 2020, the total amount of deposits of individuals decreased by 222 million 625 thousand manat, and deposits in foreign currency - by 495 million 747 thousand manat.

The expert also concerns the completion of the term of deposit insurance, but the government does not react to this at all. The price of oil is about 52 dollars and may still fall to 40-45 dollars. Economic activity in the world is falling sharply and all this cannot but affect Azerbaijan. This means that pressure on the manat will increase and devaluation will become inevitable, but not earlier than May-June.

The Azadlıq.info website writes that GDP in Azerbaijan decreased by $ 5 billion or 80%, which means that the path to devaluation is open.

In 2019, Azerbaijan produced GDP of $ 49 billion. GDP revenue in 2019 grew by only $ 1 billion, although in 2018 this figure was $ 6 billion.

Thus, the country may face another devaluation.

The website Bizimyol.info deals with the topic of cybercrime. Experts believe that a special state agency should be created to combat such crimes. They steal money through the Internet, sell counterfeit products, spread misinformation, and more.

10 years ago, the Main Directorate for Combating Cybercrime was created at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but then it was liquidated without even starting to act.

The fight against cybercrime should be conducted by the State Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The SSS should fight cybercrime related to national security issues, and everything else should be related to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. -0-
