Mehman Huseynovs Father Asks His Son to Stop Hunger Strike
Baku / 08/01/19 / Turan: The father of blogger Mehman Huseynov, Rafig Huseynov, today visited his son in Baku Detention Center 1. This was their first meeting after Mehman began a hunger strike.
"My meeting with Mehman lasted more than an hour. The head of the institution promised that he would not interfere with our meetings in the future," Rafig Huseynov told Turan.
According to him, Mehman is very weak. "He looked sluggish and drowsy. I asked him to eat and said I would bring him what he wants," the father noted.
"I bought him apples, pomegranates and various foods. I asked him to eat all this, but if not, then let him give it to his cellmates. I do not know whether he will listen to me or not," said Rafig Huseynov.
During the meeting, Mehman reiterated that he had not beaten the warden.
"I told Mehman: "Tell me the truth. If you hit him, accept punishment. To this, Mehman said: "Father, I was not there at all. I drank tea at another place at that moment. The accusations are false," Rafig Huseynov continued.
He noted that he also saw representatives of the ICRC in the detention center. My father suggested that they came to a meeting with Mehman. -03B06-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
