On the evening of May 15th, the national hero of Azerbaijan, Colonel Eldar Agayev died suddenly of a heart attack.

In the army, his name became widely known after a series of brilliant victories of his battalion of special forces to protect Tartar in the spring of 1994.

The unit founded by Eldar Agayev not only withstood the attack by the Armenians, who were planning to reach Yevlakh, but also caused them a crushing defeat. After the defeat of several divisions of the enemy at Tartar, Armenians openly declared that Azeris could not fight so, claiming that they were fighting mercenaries from Russia.

Eldar Agayev was born in Tbilisi to a military family in 1955. The family then moved to Baku. After studying at Schools Number 20 and 134, in 1972, he entered the Baku Military College.

In the Soviet Army, he served as an intelligence battalion commander, and fought in Afghanistan.

When the Karabakh conflict began, Eldar was the commander of a motorized infantry division in Germany. After he expressed a desire to return to Azerbaijan and participate in the defense of the country, the command offered him the post of colonel. However, the officer did not accept ast this time.

In 1992, he began to create the first battalion of special forces in the Azerbaijani army. He personally recruited people and trained them.

The battalion and its individual scouts participated in dozens of battles and operations on all the fronts, 18 of them becamoming national heroes, many posthumously.

In March 1995, the division was called to disarm the special police force. He received the title of National Hero then.

Subsequently, for some reason the demand for such officers disappeared, and Eldar Agayev worked as head of the department of military training at the Polytechnic Institute, taught at the Military Academy, and then in to the reserve.

A year ago Agayev began to serve as an inspector of the internal troops. -02B-
