Baku/09.08.23/Turan: 23 more families, including 93 people, returned to the city of Lachyn on August 9. Thus, the total number of Lachyn residents who returned to their hometown after the end of the Armenian occupation amounted to 203 families (793 people), the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons of Azerbaijan reported.

In total, 700 families are planned to be relocated to Lachyn by the end of 2023, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee of Refugees Fuad Huseynov told the Azerbaijani service of the "Voice of America." He noted that in the coming weeks, the return of the population to the village of Zabukh of the Lachyn district will also begin.

Lots have already been drawn for the distribution of houses among 20 families who will return to Zabuh. In the near future, the first 144 families will also be returned to Fuzuli.

The Lachyn region was occupied by Armenians in May 1992. According to the terms of the trilateral statement of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Russian Federation, the region was returned to Azerbaijan on December 1, 2020.

The transfer of the city of Lachyn, the villages of Zabukh and Sus was postponed due to the passage of the road from Armenia to the Armenian-populated part of Karabakh through them.

In August 2022, after the construction of a bypass road, Lachyn and two villages were also liberated from occupation. ---06B---
