More than 60,000 children vaccinated against measles in Azerbaijan

Baku/23.12.23/Turan: Over 60.000 children were vaccinated against measles in Azerbaijan for 20 days of December. This was reported by deputy director of the Republican Centre for Hygiene and Epidemiology Afag Aliyeva.

According to her, children who missed both the first and second vaccination are vaccinated.

"I think that due to the wide vaccination, we will be able to stop the spread of measles in a short time. There are enough high-quality, effective and safe vaccines at the vaccination stations. They were brought to Azerbaijan through UNICEF and meet the standards of the World Health Organisation. No child has had complications after vaccination," Aliyeva said.

She urged parents not to take unvaccinated children to mass events.

"New Year holidays are approaching. If your child is not vaccinated, try to vaccinate him as soon as possible. After vaccination, it takes a month for the body to acquire immunity. Children should not be taken to mass gatherings, where the probability of spreading the disease is high," the deputy director of the Republican Centre for Hygiene and Epidemiology said.

According to her, the vaccines for children over 10 years old have also been delivered to Azerbaijan.

"Now the vaccines are distributed among medical institutions. In the coming days, schoolchildren over 10 years old, as well as teenagers and adults, will be able to apply to district polyclinics for medical examination. If there are no contraindications, they can be vaccinated," she said.

The number of measles cases has recently grown in Azerbaijan.  Despite the absence of official statistics, according to media and social networks, several hundred people have been infected and five children have died.-03B06-
