Mukhtarli: I do not rely on the prosecutor's office; the Georgian side also took part in my abduction
Baku/08.04.21/Turan: Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Mukhtarli, who was abducted from Tbilisi in May 2017, says that he does not hope for the Georgian prosecutor's office, since, according to the journalist, the Georgian side was also involved in his abduction.
He stated this today upon arriving in Tbilisi from Germany, where he received political asylum, reports apsny.ge.
At a press conference in Tbilisi today Mukhtarli said he would go to the prosecutor's office and give testimony, in particular, about how he was kidnapped and how he was taken out of Georgia.
“The Azerbaijani side and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service, and the border police from the Georgian side took part in my abduction. I have to inform the prosecutor's office how I was brought to Azerbaijan, I saw half the way. I must show the place where my abduction came from. I do not hope for the Georgian prosecutor's office.
The Georgian side did this together with the Azerbaijani side, and then Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili was informed, probably, Ivanishvili also knew. If they show me the photographs, I will recognize the attackers,” Mukhtarli said. According to him, he will stay in Georgia for 10-15 days.
* Investigative journalist Afgan Mukhtarli was kidnapped in Tbilisi in May 2017 and secretly transported to Azerbaijan, where he was accused of smuggling, illegal border crossing, and violence against a border guard and sentenced to 6 years in prison.
The European Parliament and international human rights organizations condemned the arrest of Mukhtarli; the Amnesty International recognized him as a "prisoner of conscience". He was released on March 17, 2020 and immediately sent from Baku to Germany.-0-
