Muslim Unity activist sentenced to almost 10 years in prison
Baku/01.11.23/Turan: On November 1, the verdict of a member of the Muslim Unity Movement (MUM) Etibar Ismailov was read out in the Baku Court for Serious Crimes. The court found him guilty of large-scale drug trafficking and sentenced him to 9 years and 9 months in prison. Ismayilov was arrested on February 1, 2023 during the next wave of arrests of religious activists against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between Azerbaijan and Iran.
The MUM announced the falsification of the charges against Ismayilov, and human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. Etibar Ismailov has already experienced the fate of a political prisoner once, when he was arrested in November 2015 in the "Nardaran case". ---30B06---
