Gubad Ibadoglu`s brother appealed to the Ombudswoman /UPDATED/
Baku/01.11.23/Turan: The Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission of the US Congress has called for the release of oppositionist Gubad Ibadoglu arrested in Azerbaijan.
Note that the Commission's statement has been published on its page on social network X and timed to coincide with 100 days since Ibadoglu's arrest and the International Day for the Protection of Political Prisoners on 30 October.
"It has been 100 days since Gubad Ibadoglu's arrest. He is in a serious condition, but he is not receiving the necessary medical care. The government must immediately and unconditionally release him," the statement further said.
In turn, the politician's brother Galib Bayramov appealed to Azerbaijani Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva to take measures and ensure Ibadoglu's rights, which are violated by the Penitentiary Service and the Main Medical Department of the Ministry of Justice.
In particular, Ibadoglu is banned from telephone conversations with his lawyers and not allowed to meet with family members face-to-face (not through a glass partition; he is not ensured the right to daily walks for 2 hours, and not provided with an alternative medical examination at his own expense.
Besides, Ibadoglu is not allowed to communicate with children living abroad by video link.
He is also not allowed to see a doctor from the International Committee of the Red Cross. The detention centre does not accept books, does not give him writing materials to take notes, and does not provide him with opportunities to meet with other persons of interest besides family members.
In the office of the Ombudswoman, Turan agency was informed that "Gubad Ibadoglu's brother Galib Bayramov and lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova addressed" to the Commissioner for Human Rights. "Within the framework of the appeals proceedings, assistance was always provided and questions were raised before the relevant structures. Also, based on the appeal of Galib Bayramov, the issue was raised before the Prosecutor General's Office. The author of the appeal will be informed about the results.
In addition, within the framework of the national preventive mechanism, Ghalib Bayramov's brother Gubad Ibadoglu was received several times when visiting the pre-trial detention center, his appeals were investigated. The conditions of his detention and the issues discussed in the media related to his medical documents were also investigated. These medical documents were presented to the lawyer Zibeida Sadygova and thus his appeal was satisfied." 16В06-

The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
