"Women Press Freedom" Calls for the Release of Shahnaz Beylergizi

The international organization "Women Press Freedom" condemned the arrest of journalist Shahnaz Beylergizi in Azerbaijan. A statement of the organization noted that this is the latest in a series of troubling state attacks on independent media in Azerbaijan. On the same day, another journalist, Shamshad Aga, was detained.

"Since 2023, the Azerbaijani government has intensified attacks on journalists. A number of journalists from Abzas Media, Toplum TV, and Meydan TV have been arrested on dubious charges. Currently, eight female journalists are behind bars. The crackdown on independent journalists must stop.  Beylergizi must be freed unconditionally," the statement reads.
