Nearly 3 tons of drugs withdrawn from Azerbaijan's turnover in five months
Baku/20.06.22/ In January-May this year, 2 tons of 879 kg of narcotics and psychotropic substances worth about 89 million manats were withdrawn from illegal turnover in Azerbaijan.
Over 1, 3 tons of the total amount consisted of heroin (789 kg), marijuana (177 kg), opium (10 kg), hashish (198), cocaine (529 kg) and about 9 kg of various psychotropic substances. This is reported by the working group of the State Commission to Combat Drug Addiction and Illicit Drug Trafficking.
During the same period, 11,754 methadone tablets and 18,788 cannabis plants were seized.
There were initiated 4,853 criminal cases on these facts, including 1,760 cases related to illegal drug sales, 2,948 to illegal drug acquisition and possession, 102 to illegal cultivation of narcotic plants, and 43 to other crimes.
In the reviewed period 3,065 persons were prosecuted for drug trafficking. Of these, 56 were foreign nationals: 20 citizens of Iran, 17 citizens of Russia, 8 citizens of Turkey, 7 citizens of Georgia, 3 citizens of Ukraine, and 1 citizen of Turkmenistan.
Note that over 600 kg of various drugs, 925 psychotropic pills and 1,125 grams of strong drugs were seized from foreign citizens.
In January-May 90 cases of smuggling of drugs and psychotropic substances were detected. -06В-
