New Members for Human Rights House Azerbaijan
Baku/19.12.17/Turan: Three independent human rights organizations form new core group of Human Rights House Azerbaijan. This was reported by www.humanrightshouse.org on Tuesday, 19 December 2017.
On 15 September 2017, the Human Rights House Foundation (HRHF) announced an open call for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to apply to be members of the new core group of Human Rights House Azerbaijan (HRH Azerbaijan). The core group is responsible for managing the House and setting its strategic direction inside the country.
Ten Azerbaijani organizations applied and, after a careful selection process, three organizations were found to comply fully with the HRH Azerbaijan selection criteria. HRHF very much appreciates the strong interest from Azerbaijani civil society.
The three members of HRH Azerbaijan"s new core group are:
Women"s Association for Rational Development, led by Shahla Ismayil
Legal Education Society, led by Intigam Aliyev
Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center, led by Anar Mammadli.
HRH Azerbaijan was founded in 2007 as an international branch of HRHF. The House provided a vibrant space in central Baku for dialogue, discussion and education on human rights. In March 2011, Azerbaijan"s Ministry of Justice ordered the House to cease all activities.
According to the statement, HRHF will continue its policy of constructive engagement with the Azerbaijani authorities, with a view to re-launching the activities of the House inside Azerbaijan. -0----

As part of the struggle against illegal migration in Baku city, operative actions were carried out at different addresses. The Interior Ministry reports that employees of the Department for Combating Illegal Migration identified and detained 34 foreigners without documents giving the right to reside and stay on the territory of Azerbaijan.

During the operation of the Main Drug Control Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 5 members of an organized group engaged in drug trafficking were detained. All of them have previous convictions: Bahlul Ismayilov, Royal Aliyev, Khayal Aliyev, Samir Aghayev, and Ali Mammadli.
