Opening monument to Zeynalabdin Tagiyev
Baku/18.01.22/Turan: The erection of a monument to the outstanding Azerbaijani oilman and philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiev near the Icheri Sheher metro station is not accidental, it has a great symbolic meaning, stated President Ilham Aliyev at the opening ceremony on Tuesday. Throughout his life, Tagiyev made a great contribution to the development and improvement of Baku, and in general to the development of Azerbaijan.
Tagiyev's merits include financing the construction of the Shollar water pipeline in Baku, opening theaters, schools for girls, sending hundreds of young Azerbaijanis to study abroad. “He was a great man, a man attached to the people, who loved the people with all his heart, thinking about the future of the people,” Aliyev said.
The charitable traditions established by Tagiyev continue today in independent Azerbaijan, and the largest philanthropist in this area is the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, he noted.—05D06-
