Osman Narimanoglu's family claims unjustified delay in his trial
Baku/07.12.23/Turan: Judicial investigation into the case of the website editor of "Demokratik.az "Osman Narimanoglu (Rzayev) is unreasonably delayed, his wife Arzu Rzayeva told Turan.
Osman Narimanoglu was arrested on July 5, 2022 on charges of extortion. After his arrest, he stated that the accusations were false, that he had been slandered by officials of the Melioration Department and doctors of the Goranboy and Goygol regions, about whose corruption acts the site published materials.
The judicial investigation has been going on since the beginning of February and is unreasonably delayed, the wife of the head of the site noted.
"The last meeting was held on September 7, three months ago. Then the court decided to send requests to mobile operators in order to provide billing for Osman's telephone conversations. By law, court requests must be secured within 30 days. The answers from the operators have come, but the meetings are not being held," Rzayeva said.
According to her, the meeting scheduled for December 7 was again postponed indefinitely on the pretext that "the trial of the Armenian military was held in the Ganja Court for Serious Crimes."
"The case against the Armenian military was considered by another panel of judges. It was an excuse to postpone the trial of Osman again," A.Rzayeva said.
The editor's wife sees the prolongation of the trial as an "order" to keep Narimanoglu in custody as "long as possible", exerting "moral pressure" on him. According to her, there is no reliable evidence of her husband's guilt and he is being prosecuted on the basis of false witness testimony.
The Ganja Serious Crimes Court could not be reached for comment. —06B-
