Passenger safety rules in Baku metro may change

Baku/06.07.22/Turan: The flow of passengers in the Baku metro has decreased, but  not because of the  incident on July 5 incident, Bahtiyar Mammadov, head of the media and public relations department of the Baku metro, told Turan.

On July 5, video footage of a man threatening sexual minorities in the Baku metro with a claw hammer wrapped in a bag was circulated on the TikTok social network. He said on his phone camera that he would cut down a man who pulls the hairs out of his eyebrows, and anyone who is not acting like a man. The man showed a similar-looking ax wrapped in cloth. Then he posted his second video on the same network, in which he confirmed the threats and showed a metal claw hammer, explaining that this object was in his hands in the first video.

“We monitor the recordings on our video surveillance systems, monitor the behavior of passengers, and based on this data, we determine the policy of control and security in the subway. The cameras are installed at the entrance to the station, above the escalators, in carriages and metro stations. We study the behavior of passengers in order to be able to predict criminal intentions. Perhaps, based on the results of the analysis, changes to the existing rules will be adopted. This is especially true for control over items carried by passengers to the subway,” B. Mammadov said.

In a conversation with Turan, he did not confirm the opinion about the poor work of the metro guards and the fears of passengers after the July 5 incident.

Mammadov said that in the summer months they have an annual decrease in the number of passengers, and this is also happening now, this is not related to the event under discussion. “Since July 4, we have been registering a decrease in the number of passengers, this volume will remain until the end of summer. We do not observe fears on the part of passengers, we do not observe any connection with the July 5 incident.” –0—
