Baku / 09.10.20 / Turan: A public campaign to collect funds for the army is going on. One of these points was created by a public activist, a former candidate for deputy of the Milli Majlis Bakhtiyar Hajiyev.
The Caspian Plaza business center in Baku has provided four rooms on the ground floor for these purposes, where from October 3 10-15 volunteers daily have been accepting donations from individuals and companies.
During this time, three trucks full of clothes, hygiene products, tents, electric generators, etc. were sent to the warring army (Murov and Naftalan).
The activists launched a campaign to send letters to the soldiers wishing them victory and health, and a safe return home. Letters are glued to boxes sent to the front.
The work is being carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Defense and other state institutions, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev told Turan.
Activists work daily from 11 to 19 pm, sorting and packaging goods.
There are about a thousand names and companies in the list of those helping the army on October 8. Everything that can be useful for the army is accepted, excluding food.
“At first we didn’t want to accept money, but foreign Azerbaijanis asked to take financial resources to buy goods in Baku. With this money we bought 4 diesel generators. We receive help from 200 citizens and companies every day. In general, since October 3, we have collected money and goods worth over 70,000 manats,” B. Hajiyev said.
The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry warned the population that the army is provided with everything completely and does not need anything. The MoD also asked not to send food products to the army, but to transfer them to the MoD, where the quality and suitability of the products will be checked before they reach the military. Nevertheless, the citizens collect and give to the military personnel whatever they consider necessary. — 0—

On a brisk November evening, the residents of Baku gathered along the waterfront of the Caspian Sea, stunned by what appeared to be the washed-up body of a colossal whale. At 16 meters long, the creature’s seemingly lifeless form and pungent odor left many convinced they were witnessing an ecological tragedy. By that night, however, the mysterious visitor had departed, loaded onto a cargo platform and whisked away to the airport.
