PFPA Activist Arrested for Third Time on Same Charge
Baku / 07.0519 / Turan: Alizamin Salayev, an activist of the Salyan regional organization of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has been subjected to administrative arrest for the third time this year. Moreover, every time he was arrested on charges of insubordination to the police. Today, he once again received 15 days, the Deputy Chairman of PFPA, Gezal Bayramly, told Turan.
According to her, on January 10 and February 18 he was already arrested for 25 and 15 days.
Bayramli reminded that after the opposition rally on January 19, more than 60 PFPA activists, including Salayev, were arrested.
"This is a new wave of repression against political activists. The government is talking about judicial and legal reforms, and at the same time continues to arrest activists on defamatory charges. Therefore, statements about reforms are far from reality," said Bayramly. -03B-

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. While the government’s decision cites the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason—despite the World Health Organization declaring its end last year—Zahid Oruj, Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Milli Majlis, pointed to other factors. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."
