PFPA Activist Exposed to Pressure in Jail
Baku / 17.09.20 / Turan: A member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Zamin Salayev, who is serving a prison sentence, was subjected to pressure due to a hunger strike in solidarity with Tofig Yagublu.
Salayev went on a hunger strike on September 15 in colony number 16.
“Today Salayev called home and said that because of the hunger strike he was under pressure, that he was beaten every day by the employees of the colony. As soon as he reported this, the telephone connection with him was interrupted,” the PFPA reported.
It was not possible to obtain comments from the Penitentiary Service.
Salayev was sentenced on April 20 by the Salyan District Court to 2 years 3 months in prison on charges of "libel" and "insult" based on a complaint from an officer of the local police department.
The reason for the lawsuit was a video posted by Salaev on the Internet, in which he, in a conversation with a policeman, accused him of persuading a 21-year-old local woman to cohabit. —21C06-
