Polad Aslanov complained of lack of effective medical care
Baku/14.03.22/Turan: Imprisoned journalist Polad Aslanov complained of the lack of effective medical care. This was reported by his wife Gulmira Aslanova.
According to her, as a result of the long hunger strike the journalist went on last month to protest against the unfair court verdict and the protraction of the appeal hearing, he suffered serious health consequences.
Since the hunger strike, he has developed tumours on his face, arms, legs and severe abdominal and leg pains.
"Repeatedly, Polad and I applied for medical examination. However, he is not examined, nor treated in the colony No. 1, and just one injection of vitamin B complex is given per day. The doctor at the medical unit told him that they had no X-ray machine and that he had to be taken to the Penitentiary Service medical facility to be examined," Aslanova wrote on her Facebook page.
She appealed to the Ombudsman's Office and the Baku Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross to conduct a comprehensive examination of P. Aslanov and prescribe him an effective treatment.
It was not possible to obtain comments from the Penitentiary Service.
Polad Aslanov, founder and head of xeberman.com, was arrested in June 2019 on charges of treason and sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment. Human rights activists recognised him as a political prisoner. On 24 February, the Supreme Court reduced his sentence to 10 years.-06B-
