Polad Aslanov Ends Hunger Strike
Baku / 12.08.20 / Turan: The head of the website xeberman.com, Polad Aslanov, who is under arrest, stopped the action on the 6th day of the hunger strike. This was reported by his wife, Gulmira Aslanova, who spoke with her husband on the phone today. According to her, P. Aslanov is under the supervision of doctors.
“Polad thanked human rights defenders, independent media, friends and all those who supported him and conveyed his greetings to them,” said G. Aslanova.
“Taking into account the concerns of my family and human rights activists, I stopped the hunger strike, but my demands remain in force,” Aslanova quoted her husband as saying.
She noted that on August 7 P. Aslanov was transferred from the Security Service detention center to the Baku detention center No. 1 of the Penitentiary Service and currently has no complaints about the conditions of detention and treatment of him.
* Polad Aslanov was detained on June 12, 2019 and arrested for 4 months on charges under Art. 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code. The investigation is being conducted by the State Security Service. On October 5, the arrest period was extended for another 4 months. He is accused of recruiting other journalists to cooperate with the Iranian special services.
On August 5, at the trial, Aslanov went on a hunger strike, announcing the biased conduct of the investigation. -06B-
