Police detained father of former political prisoner
Baku/16.08.22/Turan: The father of former political prisoner, now deceased Elnur Farajev - Husein Farajev was detained on 15 August in the Neftchala region where he permanently resides.
"The police officers came to our house and demanded to go with them to the district police department. I refused, demanding an official summons for me. After that, they dragged me to their car. I wasn't even allowed to close the doors of my house and inform my family. The police showed claims against me for my publications on facebook", - Farajev told the Turan agency after his release from the police.
After detaining Farajev for two hours and taking an explanation from him, the man was released.
The press service of the Interior Ministry did not provide any comments.
*Elnur Farajev, an activist of the youth committee of the Neftchala region branch of the Party of People's Front of Azerbaijan, was arrested on December 9, 2016. He was charged under Article 234.2 (illegal trafficking of narcotic substances) of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment.
In May 2018, E. Faradjev was pardoned, but died a few weeks later from a serious illness that had afflicted him while in custody. Police banned his commemoration.-21B06-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony.
