Baku / 11.08.17 / Turan: Today in Shirvan city the police detained the father of the head of the Organization of Democratic Youth Ismail Islamoglu. Islamoglu himself told Turan about this.
"I was told that if I do not go to the police myself, my father will not be let out. I agreed. Now I'm waiting for a phone call. They will name the police department and I will go there," Islamodlu said.
According to him, the reason for the "interest" of the police was his publication of a status on the Internet about holding a protest action demanding the release of political prisoners.
Meanwhile, for several hours now there is no information of another activist of the Sumgait organization of the Popular Front Party Ruslan Gara.
He does not answer phone calls, neighbors saw him taken away from his house by people in civilian clothes. However, the police do not confirm the information about his detention, said the activist Elchin Hasanzadeh.
On August 11, people in civilian clothes also appeared at the apartment of the head of the website Press-az.com, Polad Aslanov, who was not at home. The family members were interrogated and Aslanov's phone number was taken.
Aslanov himself also alleges that their interest in him is related to his work in defense of the rights of political prisoners. -03B-

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. While the government’s decision cites the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason—despite the World Health Organization declaring its end last year—Zahid Oruj, Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Milli Majlis, pointed to other factors. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."
