Political emigrants launched a campaign in Europe to defend political prisoners in Azerbaijan
Baku/19.07.19/Turan: Activists of the organization of Azerbaijani political emigres "Choose Democratic Azerbaijan" (CDA) were held in the German city of Essen before the editorial offices of the three leading German media outlets - NRZ Neue Ruhr / Neue Rhein Zeitung, WAZ Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung and UZ Unsere Zeit) actions in defense of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
According to one of the activists of the organization, an activist Elshan Abdullayev, the holding of this action was due to the fact that the media is an "indispensable institution" in covering and solving problems with human rights.
The organizers were aiming to draw the attention of the German media and society to human rights violations in Azerbaijan, the presence of 110 political prisoners in the country.
By the number of political prisoners, Azerbaijan is one of the leaders in the world.
In addition, in the world Media Freedom Index, Azerbaijan ranks 166th among 180 countries of the world.
And in the rating of the Corruption Perception Index of the Transparency organization, Azerbaijan ranks the 152nd among 180 countries of the world.
Other members of the CDA Emin Manafov, Azer Aliyev, Emin Shiraliyev, Mirmuhammed Huseynov, Jeyhun Alizade, Alysh Abdullayev, Mamed Garayev, Gachai Piriyev and others also spoke at the rally of solidarity with activists and journalists held in Azerbaijani prisons.
The CDA launched the campaign "German journalists in support of political prisoners" and within the framework of it intends to draw media attention to human rights violations in Azerbaijan, including cases of arrested journalists. -06D-
