Presentation of Intigam Aliyev's New Novel
Baku / 09/09/19 / Turan: Representatives of the democratic public, media and young activists attended on Saturday the presentation of a new novel by the well-known Azerbaijani lawyer and human rights activist, the former "prisoner of conscience" Intigam Aliyev, entitled "Death of the Scoundrel."
On the initiative of the author and a group of activists, a rally to collect school supplies for children from poor families living in remote areas was also timed to coincide with the presentation. It is also supposed to help children from families of political prisoners.
The protagonist of the novel "Death of the Scoundrel" is a lawyer who defends journalists and political activists. He also often sharply criticizes those in power for violating human rights. The "inconvenient" lawyer himself is thrown into prison.
But in his defense a wide campaign begins, he is awarded prestigious international awards, and he turns into a symbol of the struggle for freedom.
Finally, after a five-year imprisonment, the lawyer is released, but now he is fighting against his former associates.
As Intigam Aliyev himself noted, the prototype of his hero, or rather the antihero, is not a specific person, but the political system itself. In a society where those in power justify any methods to eliminate opponents, the state system constantly produces scoundrels, the author emphasized.
The essence of the work is revealed in a short slogan - "The book is not about scoundrels, but the system that grows them."
The novel is dedicated to the memory of the well-known lawyer Elton Guliyev who untimely died after a serious illness in 2015. "The death of the prominent lawyers and remarkable people Elton Guliyev and Isakhan Ashurov is our untimely and irreparable loss," Intigam Aliyev said.
As noted in the speeches of the participants of the event, "Death of the Scoundrel" and the first artwork by Intigam Aliyev, Meydan, are an important event in the literary life of the country, a contribution to the development of the genre of the modern Azerbaijani political novel.
The importance of creating new works on the political realities of Azerbaijan was noted for the reader to understand the essence of the processes taking place in the country and to find answers to interesting questions.
Presentation participants were given copies of Intigam Aliyev"s book. -06D-

At 16 meters long, the creature’s seemingly lifeless form and pungent odor left many convinced they were witnessing an ecological tragedy. By that night, however, the mysterious visitor had departed, loaded onto a cargo platform and whisked away to the airport.
