Press Review 05/05/2017

Evaluation of the social protection system in the country, the deposit flow in the banking system, the situation in Azerenergy and the organization of hunting tours are topics of today's press.

The Azerbaijan writes about an effective system of social protection in the country, emphasizing the exceptional role of Heydar Aliyev in creating the strategy of this system in 1993.

The system of social protection, according to the World Bank, covers 90.1% of the poor. Since 2006, through the system of social protection, 1 million 319 thousand people receive a labor pension, 466,400 received different types of benefits, and 546,000 receive targeted social assistance.

The Echo published an article titled The Outflow of Deposits from Azerbaijani Banks Continues. Despite the fact that citizens continue to keep money in banks, the outflow of deposits continues. The population, taught by bitter experience, does not trust not only the manat, but also the entire banking sector. It is for this reason that there is a stable outflow of deposits from banks. So, if at the end of 2016 the total amount of deposits was equal to 7 billion 448.7 million manats, then for two months of 2017 the amount of deposits decreased by almost 347 million manats.

The Novoye Vremya writes about the plight of OJSC Azerenergy.

Until recently, the staff of this company received decent salaries (by local standards), and the joint stock company itself spent funds on certain projects. As of July 1, 2016, the company owed more than 800 million manats to the budget and tax authorities.

Staff reduction in Azerenergy took place in 2013 and then officials said they do not have enough money to pay employees and develop the industry.

The Bizim Yol writes about hunting tours in Azerbaijan in connection with the beginning of the hunting season in the end of May. Some travel agencies, using this, organize expensive tours. So the cost of fishing for one person is 500 manats. Hunting for birds costs 2,300 manats, and hunting for mountain goats costs about 7,000 manats. The cost includes providing the client with expensive rifles, which is illegal, the author of the material believes. -0--
