Press Review 10/04/2017

Criticism of the double standards policy of the West, the reasons for non-attendance of children at school, and the rise in price of food products are the leading topics of today's press.

The Azerbaijan criticizes the policy of double standards of the West, which is indifferent to separatism. Despite the fact that the whole of Europe supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, the indifferent attitude to the separatist regime in Karabakh continues, and the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan is not being restored. The policy of double standards of the West showed itself in Spain in the matter of the separation of Catalonia. The author believes the only way to prevent conflicts is the restoration of territorial integrity.

The Echo writes about the growth in the number of children who do not go to school. There are no statistical data on the number of children who are outside the education system in Azerbaijan. However, it can be argued that we are talking about thousands.

It is important to monitor, and representatives of relevant bodies should go to schools and homes and collect data on the number of children of school age. Then they should compare how many of them get education, and how many are left outside the school system.

It is important to establish why children do not go to school, and 25 years ago this problem did not exist at all. Girls often face early marriage, and boys have to get a job because of the difficult financial situation.

According to the statistics of the recent years, 7% of the population of Azerbaijan is below the poverty line, which is about 300,000 people, and 90,000 of them are children. Of these 90,000, more than half are unable to attend school because of financial difficulties, everyone else is at risk and may also stop going to school at any time.

The Novoye Vremya published an article on the growth of prices for food. The head of the Central Bank Elman Rustamov said a very low inflation rate is expected by the end of the year. On average, the population spends up to a third of their income on food. Low-income families spend a half of their income on food.
