Press Review 22 February 2018
The anniversary of the appointment of First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, the growth of food imports, and a look at increasing pensions are the leading topics of today's press.
The Azerbaijan newspaper wrote that a year has passed since the appointment of Mehriban Aliyeva as the First Vice President and assesses her activities over this period.
As a result of the referendum, an institution of Vice Presidency was established. And on February 21, 2017, Ilham Aliyev signed an order appointing First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva.
She directed her activities to poorly protected sections of the population. In particular, these are patients deprived of parental care and internally displaced persons.
The website Azadliqinfo writes about Ilham Aliyev's increase in the size of pensions before the extraordinary presidential elections. It seems that the authorities are trying to show concern for pensioners.
However, if the authorities really wanted to take care of people, they would pay the due insurance to the families of martyrs and compensate for the damage caused by the devaluation.
The newspaper Yeni Musavat discusses the theme of the growth of food imports with experts. In January 2018, according to the State Customs Committee, goods for 99 million 210 thousand dollars were imported to the country.
Most of all imports included grain. Fruits and vegetables were on the second place, and vegetable and animal products were on the third place.
In comparison with January 2017, in January 2018 there was an increase in imports amounting to 22 million 704 thousand dollars.

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
