Prosecutor asks eight years for religious activist
Baku / 27.02.18 / Turan: The trial in the case of Ahsan Nuruzade, the activist of the movement "Muslim Unity", accused of drug trafficking, is coming to an end in the Baku Serious Crimes Court. The prosecutor asked today to sentence him to 8 years of imprisonment. The defense asked time to prepare for the speech. The judge appointed the next meeting on March 6.
The activist of the movement "Muslim Unity" Ahsan Nuruzade was arrested on charges of drug trafficking on October 6, 2017. He was charged under Article 234.4.3. (illegal drug trafficking in a large amount) of the Criminal Code, which provides for punishment from 5 to 12 years of imprisonment.
Nuruzade was involved in the coordination of legal and public protection of religious activists arrested in connection with the Nardaran events of 2015. He is recognized by local human rights defenders as political prisoner. -06B-

The Interior Ministry reports that employees of the Department for Combating Illegal Migration identified and detained 34 foreigners without documents giving the right to reside and stay on the territory of Azerbaijan.

During the operation of the Main Drug Control Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 5 members of an organized group engaged in drug trafficking were detained. All of them have previous convictions: Bahlul Ismayilov, Royal Aliyev, Khayal Aliyev, Samir Aghayev, and Ali Mammadli.
